Chickasaw State Park in Chester County occupies 1,280 acres within a 14,384-acre state forest in West Tennessee, with Lake Placid, Lake Lajoie, and some of the region’s highest ground shaping its landscape. Named for the Chickasaw people who once lived across West Tennessee and northern Mississippi, the park began in the New Deal era as part of Tennessee’s plan for 20 new state parks. In 1955, after responsibilities returned to state control, the park and forest lands were deeded to the state and formally became a state park. Historic Works Progress Administration cabins and a wide range of outdoor recreation still define the area.
