The Kentucky Colonel Hotel, built in 1903 by Col. G. W. Gist, was a showplace in early Broken Arrow and became popular throughout the country for its fried chicken meals. The impressive inn attracted rail passengers for years, and Vena Hunsecker was an early manager. The Kentucky Colonel was dismantled in 1955.
