The Belk Store was home of the R.J. Belk Company from 1894 to 1938. In 1970, the families of William Henry Belk and Dr. John M. Belk presented it to the Waxhaw Woman's Club. The Waxhaw Woman's Club restored it from 1973 to 1974, with Jack O. Boyte as restoration architect and Boyce M. Brown as restoration contractor.
