Boone's Lick State Historic Site in central Missouri preserves a saltwater spring that attracted settlers in the early 19th century and helped shape settlement in the region. Located about four miles east of Arrow Rock and established in 1960, the site is named for Nathan Boone and Daniel Morgan Boone, sons of Daniel Boone, who produced salt there. The spring gave its name to Boone's Lick Country, regarded as the first major American settlement in central Missouri, and to Boone's Lick Road, an early route from St. Charles to Franklin that crossed the wilderness.
