Illinois Medal of Honor recipients included service members from the U.S. Army, U.S. Navy, U.S. Marine Corps, U.S. Naval Reserve, U.S. Marine Corps Reserve, and U.S. Air Force, as well as a civilian pilot, whose names were recorded in an Illinois area dedication on September 17, 1969, followed by the dedication of a granite obelisk on June 23, 1994, by Governor Jim Edgar and the grateful citizens of Illinois.
