The men and women who fought in the Iraq War are honored for their courage and sacrifice in doing their duty, with special remembrance of Private First Class Jason Poindexter of 2nd Platoon, Echo Company, 2nd Battalion, 5th Regiment, 1st Marine Division, who was killed in combat on 12 September 2004 in Ramadi, Iraq. The tribute invokes Abraham Lincoln’s words from the Gettysburg Address of November 19, 1863, calling for increased devotion to the cause for which the dead gave the last full measure of devotion so that they shall not have died in vain.
