The stone horse-watering trough on the east side of Broadway was once a regular stopping place on the main road north from New York City. By 1932, the trough was already outdated, and a sign for the Farragut Inn above it sought to attract travelers into the village and the inn at the corner of Warburton Avenue and Spring Street. The “Tallyho,” with its liveried footmen, also passed through Hastings on its route between the Ardsley Country Club and Manhattan.
