The Canadian Bushplane Heritage Centre in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, preserves the history of bush flying, aerial firefighting, and forest protection in Canada from a site first used as an Ontario Provincial Air Service air base in 1924. Founded in 1987 by local volunteers, it occupies a large hangar on the St. Marys River and maintains a close connection to the working aviation world it represents. Its collection includes more than thirty aircraft, especially floatplanes, bush planes, waterbombers, and forestry equipment, alongside exhibits on women in aviation, firefighting, and natural history. It also operates the Sault Ste. Marie Water Aerodrome and continues expanding its interpretation of Ontario’s flying heritage.
