Mail-Bullion Car No. 13 was the only railroad car ever designed expressly for the transportation of precious metals. Built by the Oxford Car Company in 1874 for the Virginia & Truckee Railroad, it carried precious cargoes worth millions of dollars from Virginia City to the mint at Carson City and to the S.P. connection in Reno until 1939.
