The Deneen family home once stood on this site, and the family was long associated with the history of McKendree College through Rev. William L. Deneen, Professor Samuel H. Deneen, and Charles S. Deneen, Governor of Illinois from 1905 to 1913 and U.S. Senator from 1925 to 1931. They represented three generations of outstanding McKendree alumni.
