John McGee, son of Col. John and Martha McFarlane McGee of Orange County, later Guilford and Randolph counties, North Carolina, was a Revolutionary War soldier who joined the Methodist Church in 1788. He married Martha Johnson, who was born about 1768 and died in 1840, and about 1798 moved to Middle Tennessee. They had four daughters and one son. In March 1973, the Tennessee Conference United Methodist Church replaced the original grave marker over Rev. McGee's grave, copying the original epitaph. On 11 May 1976, the grave was removed from the homeplace near Dixon Springs, at the TVA nuclear plant site, to Hartsville United Methodist Church.
