Originally the site of the relocated Fort St. Jean Baptiste, this became the first formal burial ground at the Natchitoches Post. The graves date from the middle eighteenth century and include French, Spanish, and American founders. Those buried here are of all races and all faiths. After the Louisiana Purchase in 1803, it was named the American Cemetery.
