Lidy Walker Covered Bridge was a fifty-foot wood-and-metal Town Lattice truss bridge that came to Berlin, Alabama, in 1958 after contractor Winford I. “Lidy” Walker bought the disused Big Branch Covered Bridge in Blount County for $50 and moved it to his farm at Lidy’s Lake. Built in 1926 and originally carrying traffic near Blountsville, it had been bypassed by a new road before Walker preserved and repurposed it as part of a recreation area. The bridge stood for decades as a local historic landmark until it collapsed in early August 2001, leaving Clarkson-Legg as Cullman County’s only remaining historic covered bridge.
