Butler County was organized in 1868. The site of Savannah, the first county seat from 1869 to 1872, was located one half mile west and two and one half miles north of this point. Shinn’s Ferry, established in 1858 directly north of this point, proved to be the only successful ferry operating between the forks and the mouth of the Platte River during the early travel westward.
