Johnson Cutoff - Peavine Ridge
Transportation
By October 2, 1856, travelers crossing Johnson Cutoff at Peavine Ridge came over a ridge or backbone along a road that was much traveled, very dusty, and cut through very red, dry earth; it was well worked because much ice was hauled along it to Hangtown.
