Greenbelt Park is a forested National Park Service area in Greenbelt, Maryland, near Washington, D.C., preserved from land originally intended as part of the protective green belt around the planned community of Greenbelt. Its southern portion became parkland, while another section went to the Henry A. Wallace Beltsville Agricultural Research Center. Acquired by the National Park Service in 1950 along with land for the Baltimore–Washington Parkway, the park was split by that road, leaving most visitor facilities in the larger western section. It remains a convenient woodland refuge near the metropolitan area, offering trails, campsites, and picnic areas.
