On this site Arlington erected a standpipe in 1894. The Metropolitan Water Works acquired the standpipe and began to supply water to Arlington in 1899. From the standpipe were also supplied Lexington in 1903 and Belmont in 1909. The first standpipe was removed and this reservoir begun in 1921, with a tank capacity of 1,995,000 gallons, an elevation at the bottom of the tank of 382, an elevation at the balcony floor of 425, and a tower height of 80 feet.
