Lake Fork Peak is a 12,881-foot mountain in the Taos Mountains of northern New Mexico, within the Wheeler Peak Wilderness of Carson National Forest. About 12 miles northeast of Taos and just west-southwest of Wheeler Peak, it is the wilderness’s second-highest point and New Mexico’s sixth-highest summit. The mountain rises steeply above the South Fork Rio Hondo, with runoff draining into the Rio Hondo, a tributary of the Rio Grande. Its name comes from Lake Fork, a creek beginning between it and Wheeler Peak, though it has also been called Fairview Mountain. Its high-elevation alpine climate brings snowy winters, summer thunderstorms, and seasonal monsoon weather that also supports nearby Taos Ski Valley.
