Hoeft State Park on Lake Huron near Rogers City developed from land assembled by lumberman Paul H. Hoeft in the early 1900s and offered to Michigan in 1920 for public use. Formally established in 1921, it grew quickly with a picnic area, campground loop, and bathhouse, then gained a bandstand, play area, manager’s house, and major 1930s Civilian Conservation Corps improvements including trails, roads, buildings, utilities, and extensive reforestation. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2009, the park preserves an important early Michigan state park landscape while continuing to offer camping, swimming, trails, and beach facilities.
