Bethany Baptist Church was established in 1867 and was originally a mile from its present site. In 1898, this property was acquired and a new church was built. A brick structure was erected in 1957. After it burned, the current church was built in 1984. Nearly 600 people from the Whynot community are buried in the cemetery.
