Henry Huttleston Rogers, born in Fairhaven, Massachusetts, on January 29, 1840, was a well-known businessman and financier who co-founded the Virginian Railway and was friends with Mark Twain. He died on May 19, 1909, less than six weeks after completion of the Virginian Railway, which many considered one of his greatest legacies, and the Town of Victoria was also established in 1909. Community life included the Victoria Town Band, Virginian Railway shop employees, the Victoria Rotary Club, and the Victoria High School Monogram Club, as well as graduating classes from Victoria High School in 1966, Lunenburg County Training School from Peoples Community Center, and Lunenburg High School. Mr. John I. Underwood took part in the intricate process of making wheels for eight cannon, using exact measurements from 350-year-old plans and assembling hubs, spokes, thick wheel pieces, and heated steel bands fitted tightly without screws, nails, or pegs. In November 1956, a new water filter plant underwent final inspection and acceptance.
