Local citizens including Pearl Boles and Irvin Standley began efforts in 1971 to preserve the Kosh City Jail. The last person placed in the jail, accused of stealing a car, was incarcerated there in August 1947 by Sgt. Jimmie Howard of the Missouri Highway Patrol. Howard later recalled, "When you put someone in that jail, they sure didn't want to come back." The jail and property were donated to the city of Koshkonong by Ted Standley on Oct. 16, 2018.
