Mary Murray Murdoch, known as “Wee Granny,” was a member of the Mormon Martin Handcart Company. She was born in Scotland on Oct. 13, 1782, and died near Chimney Rock, Neb. on Oct. 2, 1856. Her reported last message was, “Tell John I died with my face toward Zion.” Her husband was James Murdoch, and their children were Janet, Mary, James, Veronica, Mary, John, Margaret, and William.
