Cheekwood Botanical Garden and Museum of Art occupies a 55-acre historic estate on Nashville’s western edge, centered on a Georgian-style limestone mansion built for Leslie Cheek after the family’s business success in groceries and coffee, including Maxwell House. Designed by Bryant Fleming and completed in 1932, the estate became home to Mabel Cheek and Huldah Cheek Sharp until the 1950s, when it was offered for conversion into a botanical garden and art museum. Open since 1960, Cheekwood preserves the Cheek estate while combining historic architecture, art collections, and cultivated gardens, making it one of Nashville’s leading cultural sites.
