North Point State Park
Nature
North Point State Park on the Chesapeake Bay at Edgemere blends recreation, protected marshland, and a long human past. People were present here as early as 9,000 years ago, and the Susquehannock later lived in the area. In 1664, Thomas Todd received Baltimore County’s first recorded deed, and some of that land remains in farming use. The peninsula also figured in the War of 1812 during the British advance toward Baltimore. In the 20th century, Bay Shore Amusement Park made the site a major bayside resort until its closure in 1947. Since Maryland acquired the land in 1987, the park has preserved both its natural habitats and reminders of that layered history.
