The Johnny Cash Museum in downtown Nashville, Tennessee, opened in May 2013 with the authorization of Cash’s estate and grew from the personal collection of founders Shannon and Bill Miller. Holding more than 1,000 artifacts, it traces Cash’s life from his Arkansas childhood and Air Force service through his recording career, prison concerts, television work, and final years. Its holdings include the restored sign from the former House of Cash, part of a stone wall from his Hendersonville lake house, his Martin guitar, and his first gold record for I Walk the Line. The museum also places him within the broader history of American popular music and has become a major Nashville attraction.
