Christopher Columbus's voyage of 1492 departed Palos, Spain, on August 3, sailed to the Canary Islands at Gomera, then on September 6 headed due west into uncharted waters. Trade winds carried the expedition to San Salvador, where it landed on October 12, 1492, and the return voyage is also represented.
