At Mosquito Lake State Park, the Mosquito Lake Dog Park officially opened in July 2009 as the Cooperation Station, a project made possible by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Trumbull County MetroParks, Trumbull County Youth Build, and Mosquito Lake Dog Park Friends. Mosquito Lake Dog Park Friends is a dedicated volunteer group whose mission is to promote, enhance, and protect the dog park. In 1949, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers entered into an agreement with the Ohio Department of Natural Resources to manage recreation on the lake. Mosquito Lake State Park attracts 1.2 million outdoor enthusiasts annually and offers activities including camping, boating, fishing, hunting, swimming, wildlife viewing, hiking, mountain biking, basketball, volleyball, disc golf, a dog park and swim area, bike rentals, horseback riding, snowmobiling, cross-country skiing, sledding, ice fishing, ice boating, archery, and geocaching. Friends of Mosquito Lake State Park, a non-profit organization established in 2009, works to preserve the park and campgrounds for future generations by promoting protection of their resources and encouraging community and visitor participation, and its first event was a Halloween Bash.
