Constructed in September 1909 as the first hospital in the area, the Douglas Surgical Institute and Infirmary cost $18,000 including land, building, and equipment. The first doctor was Dr. C. W. Roberts, and the builders and owners were B. H. Tanner, F. L. Sweat, and C.M. Sweat.
