The UCI Arboretum is a twelve point five-acre botanical garden and arboretum at the University of California, Irvine that functions as both a living plant collection and a resource for conservation and research. Located north of the main campus near the San Joaquin Wildlife Sanctuary and Upper Newport Bay, it emphasizes plants from the California Floristic Province and South Africa. Its California collections include native species tied to Baja California, the Channel Islands, the Mojave Desert, Southern maritime chaparral, Otay Mesa, and California oak woodland, along with native grasslands, wildflowers, maritime succulent scrub, and aloes. With public access now limited to quarterly open houses, it serves chiefly as a research and preservation landscape.
