Jasper Museum, operated by the Jasper Area Historical Society, preserves the history of Jasper and its surrounding area through exhibits on everyday life, farming, clothing, household goods, and the town’s founding. Opened in 1981 in the John M. Poorbaugh Block after plans for a smaller site proved impractical, the museum occupies one of Jasper’s notable commercial buildings. Constructed in 1889 for The Quarry Store from gray jasper with red pipestone trim, the building later housed residences, offices, and the Jasper Journal from 1917 to 1972. Its architectural significance and long civic and commercial role were recognized when it was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2024.
