The Wellington and Powell Railroad ran between Windsor and Ahoskie in the early to mid 1900’s, carrying produce and passengers. A brick vault once stood in its depot. On one hill along the route, the train often had trouble climbing, and passengers sometimes had to jump out and help push the cars to the top. That difficulty led people to jokingly call the W&P the “Walk and Push.”
