Jon F. LaFaver, a lifelong resident of New Cumberland, was widely known for his service as a member and president of the West Shore School Board in the 1970s and 1980s. He was regarded as a man of impeccable character, driven by a strong sense of community service, and in all he did he personified and embraced the school district's motto of "Excellence." LaFaver also served as Solicitor for New Cumberland Borough and was a partner in the law firm of Stone, LaFaver and Shekletski. In 1975, he spearheaded the Bicentennial Benjamin House Project and was a founding father of The Benjamin Library, dedicated July 4, 1976, where he also served on the Library Board. Recognized as an outstanding community leader, he was awarded a place on The Path of Leadership in The Peiffer Memorial Arboretum and Nature Preserve on August 4, 2019.
