In 1915, Vice President Thomas Marshall traveled to Indiana to take part in dedication ceremonies in Hoosier cities celebrating the Lincoln Highway. In 1928, concrete markers provided by the Lincoln Highway Association were planted along the Lincoln Highway by the Boy Scouts of America as a lasting tribute to President Abraham Lincoln and the nation's first coast-to-coast auto road. Indiana's 1928 route passed north of Columbia City.
