Lutherans in the Providence community sought spiritual guidance for the Plains area of Texas through the Mission Board of the First Evangelical Lutheran Synod of Texas, and Pastor F.A. Bracher began services on June 11, 1911. Soon after the first service in the one-room Providence school, the Evangelical Trinity Lutheran Church was organized and adopted a constitution signed by E. Rohloff, F. Lindemann, H. Sammann, J.H. Ratien, K. Sammann, C. Koenig, F. Boedeker, L.H. Sammann, and F. Meyer. Later that year, the congregation chose to build a church after Henry Quebe, a settler of McGregor, offered five acres for a church and parsonage, and the building was dedicated on June 2, 1912. Over the next several years, the congregation became self-supporting and made improvements to the building. As the Providence community grew in the late 1940s, the congregation expanded its facilities, dedicating a larger structure on February 26, 1950, and adding to the church and parsonage in 1963. The original church bell, cast in 1879 and used by the church since 1912, was stored during 1963 construction and erected in 1985 in a steel tower through memorial funds and congregational contributions. In 1987, the church joined with other congregations to form the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, continuing its work through the vision and dedication of its pastors and members.
