Eppington, standing two and one-third miles south, was built in the late 1760s by Francis Eppes and his wife, Elizabeth Wayles Eppes, the half-sister of Martha Wayles Jefferson. Thomas Jefferson frequently visited Eppington. His daughter Lucy Jefferson died and was presumably buried there in 1786. Another daughter, Mary Jefferson, married John Wayles Eppes, the son of Francis and Elizabeth Wayles Eppes, in 1797 and subsequently lived at Eppington.
