In Lebanon, Connecticut, this site marks a tavern built in 1738 and owned during the Revolutionary War by Captain Alden, later passing to a descendant named Wattles around 1850. It is best known for a local legend that British General Richard Prescott stopped there after his capture while being taken to George Washington’s headquarters, angrily rejected a meal of corn and beans, and was horsewhipped by Alden, though no contemporary evidence confirms the story. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1998 for its event association and archaeological potential, the site later became a town parking lot after a 2010 survey.
