The Daniel Boone Home in Defiance, Missouri, stands on a wooded hillside among stately elms, including the Judgment Tree with a 16½-foot girth. Begun in 1803 and completed in 1810, the four-story Georgian-style house was built of blue limestone with 2½-foot-thick walls, and all beams and woodwork are black walnut. Its five walnut fireplaces were carved by Daniel Boone himself, and the small bedroom next to the north entrance is the room where he died on September 26, 1820, at age 86.
