Rays Hill is a mountain ridge in south-central Pennsylvania’s Ridge and Valley Appalachians, forming county boundaries and extending into Huntingdon County. Known as both Rays Hill and Wrays Hill, with usage varying north and south of Broad Top Mountain, the ridge is tied geographically to surrounding mountains and plateau country. Geologically, it is supported by the Mississippian Pocono Formation, with Rockwell and Catskill formations exposed on its northwest flank, and together with nearby Town Hill it forms a syncline. Rays Hill also figures in Pennsylvania transportation history through the abandoned Rays Hill Tunnel on the Pennsylvania Turnpike and the Wrays Hill Tunnel on the East Broad Top Railroad. Part of Buchanan State Forest lies on the ridge today.
