Headquarters of the Army of the Potomac moved from Middleburg to Taneytown. First Corps marched from Emmitsburg to Marsh Run, Third Corps from Taneytown to Bridgeport, Fifth Corps from Liberty via Johnsville, Union Bridge, and Union to Union Mills, Sixth Corps from New Windsor to Manchester, and Twelfth Corps from Taneytown and Bruceville to Littlestown. The First and Second Brigades of the First Cavalry Division moved from near Fairfield via Emmitsburg to Gettysburg, the Second Cavalry Division moved from New Windsor to Westminster and then to Manchester, the Third Cavalry Division moved from Littlestown to Hanover, and the Artillery Reserve moved from Bruceville to Taneytown. Fighting took place at Hanover, Pennsylvania, and skirmishes occurred at Westminster, Maryland, and Fairfield and Sporting Hill near Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.
