In German folklore, the cyclamen was known as Our Lady's ladles. According to the story of the German people, regardless of whether the flower stems grew vertical, horizontal, or drooping, the cups of the flower always faced upward. This made the stems and flowers resemble little ladles and evoked an image of the kitchen of Nazareth, where Our Lady Mary would ladle grace into souls.
