McCain's Cumberland Presbyterian Church was established circa 1810, and in 1817 Eli McCain donated the property for the church and cemetery. Originally a log church and a noted campground and meeting place, the present brick building was erected in 1840 by Nimrod Porter. More than 75 war veterans are buried in McCain's cemetery. McCain's Academy operated from 1855 to 1861, when it burned. Rebuilt in 1894, McCain's Academy operated through the 1920s.
