After the fire of 1901, E. F. Royal built a two-story building here. Its north half was occupied by E.F. Royal as a grocery, confectionery, and meat market. On the south side, a clothing store operated from 1903 to 1967, first as Marshall and then as Cummings Store, followed briefly by the Blossom Shop operated by Ellsworth Bunnell, and later by Paul's Shoe Store. Upstairs, the building offered two very nice commodious tenements and four nicely arranged toilet rooms, one for each tenement and store. The building was torn down in 1969 to make way for a parking lot for the then Farmers and Traders Bank, later Citizen's Bank. It is said that an entire year's worth of coal remains buried under the pavement.
