Trinity Cemetery serves as the burial ground for the Episcopal congregation of Trinity Church Chocowinity. The Rev. Nathaniel Blount of Chocowinity, a missionary of the Society for the Propagation of the Gospel, established Trinity Church directly across the road in 1774, and the congregation moved the church one mile east to its present location in 1939. Penelope and Apsley Grist, two sisters, transferred this land on January 1, 1860. Many of Chocowinity’s pioneer families are buried here. A monument in the rear honors Maj. Gen. Bryan Grimes, CSA. Among those who cared for the cemetery, Miss Lucretia Hughes (1890-1994) stands out for tireless dedication that helped ensure its preservation for the future.
