Jack Woolard served in the United States Air Force from 1967 to 1971 and was a Sergeant aboard an AC-130 Gunship in the Spectre Squadron in Vietnam from 1968 to 1969. After receiving an Honorable Discharge, he moved to Tifton and began his career with the Tift County Sheriff’s Department in 1974. During that career he received numerous commendations and awards, including the Military Order of the Purple Heart National Law Enforcement Citation for injuries received in the performance of duty. Major Woolard gave 34 years of service to his department and community before his career ended where it began, on the courthouse steps.
