The Douglas and Charlotte Grant House, a historic residence near Cedar Rapids, Iowa, stands on 40 acres and was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright as a Usonian home. Begun in 1949 and largely completed in 1951, with some work continuing until about 1960, it was one of Iowa’s earliest examples of this style. The house embodies Wright’s emphasis on modern design, efficient planning, and harmony with the landscape through horizontal lines, broad window walls, natural light, open interiors, and a central hearth anchored by three large fireplaces. Its limestone was quarried on the property by the owners, and its architectural significance earned National Register listing in 1988.
