Coburn-Variel Home
History
6
Built in the fall of 1878 by Joshua Variel and his son, Will, this house was home to several families over the next century. In 1896 Sheriff John Bransford bought the home, then sold it in 1899 to Attorney Louis N. Peter, who died there in 1916. In 1922 it was sold to Abe and Emily Bar, whose family kept it until 1972. It was then sold to the Paynes, who in turn sold it to the Winters in 1975. In 1989 the Plumas County Museum Association became the owner and began restoring the home to its original appearance.
