Hobe Sound National Wildlife Refuge is a 1,035-acre coastal refuge on Jupiter Island in Florida, with lands on both sides of the Indian River Lagoon, established on September 30, 1969 to protect loggerhead and green sea turtles. Its Jupiter Island tract includes exceptionally productive sea turtle nesting beach, while its mainland tract preserves rare sand pine scrub habitat diminished by development. Within it, the Reed Wilderness Seashore Sanctuary was designated a National Natural Landmark in 1967. The refuge also supports many species of concern, uses active habitat management such as tree trimming and controlled fire, addresses erosion and nest predation, and serves environmental education through the Hobe Sound Nature Center.
