Indians lived in this coulee many centuries ago at an ancient camp site where an Indian trail came down the steep hill and crossed the coulee to the east. Later, the Cariboo Cattle Trail crossed here on its route from Oregon to the Cariboo and Thompson mines in Canada. More than 500 miles long, it was used from 1859 to 1868 to supply miners with food. Dry coulee to the east later became the main wagon road to Coulee City for early homesteaders living near Blue Lake in the early 1900's, and this road can be seen from here one-half mile to the east.
