Members of this community served the United States in war, and several gave their lives. In Korea, Ralph E. Baker, a corporal in the Army, was killed in action on May 5, 1951. In Vietnam, James A. Marshall, a first lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force, went missing in action on June 18, 1965; Jeffrey R. Smallidge, a private first class in the Army, was killed in action on September 15, 1966; Elwood D. Covey Jr, a sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corps, was killed in action on December 19, 1966; David J. DeRue, a private first class in the Army, was killed in action on July 2, 1967; Marlin L. Siegwalt, a captain in the U.S. Air Force, was killed in action on October 30, 1967; Richard I. Bornheimer, a private first class in the Army, was killed in action on August 2, 1968; John R. Marsh, a private first class in the U.S. Marine Corps, was killed in action on October 6, 1968; and Michael G. Hoff, an airman first class in the U.S. Air Force, was killed in action on November 1, 1968. In Iraq, Jonathan E. Lootens, a sergeant in the Army, was killed in action on October 15, 2006.
